Diamond Drilling is used in the mineral exploration industry and is utilised in any situation requiring precise holes.

We contract Starwest, a local drilling company based out of Heathcote. This local company uses specially designed Boart Longyear LM90 drill rigs.

This rig is lightweight, low noise and rubber track mounted, so it can handle wet ground without the need to build a road. Starwest is Southern Cross Gold’s preferred drilling contractor for its favourable safety, environment, and landholder relations record.

Diamond drilling uses a diamond-impregnated drill bit to produce cores or “sticks” of rock from small holes (less than 96mm in diameter). These cores give the geologist the maximum information about the rock and the structures associated with gold mineralisation with minimal environmental impact. All holes are completely rehabilitated at the end of a drilling program.
