What is core cutting?

When the core arrives at our shed our geologists study and log the core into our database.

While logging the geologist looks for clues as to why, how and where the mineralisation occurs.  The geologist will then decide what core is to be sampled and sent to the laboratory in Bendigo for analysis.  To sample the core it must be cut into equal halves down the centre of the stick. One half will go the laboratory and the other half is retained as a reference in our core library.

We cut the core by using a core saw which is operated by highly trained geological technicians.  The core saw works like a brick saw but it has an automatic feed specially designed for drill core.  The core saw is in a sound proof and climate controlled container at our Kilmore Warehouse.

Meet Patricio - he is one of our core cutters on site!
